Quick writing prompts to get your ideas flowing

—Describe yourself when you were aged seven. What did you look like? What did you love to do? Can you create a scene—use memory and a little imagination?

—Describe the home you lived in as a child. Describe a classroom you remember.

—Write about a time when you were waiting for something.

—Describe a sad event in your life. Focus on the events and not the emotions. Think again about how to create a scene.

—Imagine you have a time machine. Where would you go? Describe the place, the differences, the people.

—If you could live a different life, what would it be like? What would you do each day? Where would you live?

—Write a letter from someone in prison.
